Maximum safety for railways: re-certification in accordance with EU fire protection standards
In terms of fire protection, PFLITSCH cable glands meet the very highest requirements of hazard level HL3 for unrestricted use in all types of train – whether on open track, in tunnels or in stations. The UNI Dicht and blueglobe series as well as the split cable gland systems UNI Flange and UNI Split Gland have now been re-certified in accordance with fire protection standard EN 45545-2.
Complete cable glands underwent the “Integrity” fire resistance test in line with EN 45545-3. The PFLITSCH sealing inserts used, made of TPE (T80s) and silicone (S55), satisfy the demanding specifications for fire resistance class E30; that is, they remain sealed for significantly longer than the standard specifies.
Successful certification of more product solutions
For the first time, the polyamide version of the blueglobe gland, fitted with a T80s sealing insert, has now been certified as E20-compliant. The PFLITSCH sealing inserts have also been tested in accordance with NFPA standards, such as the Bombardier test and the standard test method in line with ASTME1354 - 16a for the development of toxic vapours from materials and smoke release in the event of fire.
Also certified for use on railways are a number of EMC variants offering outstanding attenuation values as well as multiple-cable sealing inserts for space-saving routing of several cables through a UNI Dicht cable gland.
PFLITSCH cable glands for railway applications are available in sizes M12 to M63, for cables with cross-sections ranging from 5 mm to 54 mm, and built to protection rating IP 68. The split systems are based on size M25 and satisfy ratings IP 66 and IP 67.
