CABseal rail – the splittable cable entry specifically designed for the railway industry
High level of fire protection. Simple and time-saving assembly.
In rail vehicles, numerous cables and wires must be safely routed into enclosures and distribution cabinets and guided through partition walls. Special requirements apply here: in the event of a fire, materials and components must help to limit the spread of fire and smoke. At the same time, installation must be carried out efficiently – particularly when pre-assembled cables and wires are being fed through.
For fire protection in rail vehicles, therefore, it is not only the material properties of the components used that are crucial. Sealing off the space also plays an important role: in the event of a fire, the fire must not be allowed to spread to adjacent areas via the cable entries. Accordingly, the EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-3 standards for fire protection in rail vehicles place high demands on the components used.
Solutions are therefore required that combine reliable fire protection with efficient and easy-to-install systems. CABseal rail was developed to meet these requirements; it complies with the strict fire protection standards and enables flexible cable routing, even with pre-assembled cables.

Our solution: CABseal rail
With the CABseal rail, PFLITSCH is expanding its tried-and-tested CABseal system to include a fire protection variant for rail vehicles. The splittable cable entry allows pre-assembled cables to be fed through quickly and easily, whilst also ensuring a secure seal. It meets the fire behaviour requirements of EN 45545-2 up to the highest hazard level, HL3, as well as the compartmentalisation requirements of EN 45545-3. In addition, the system meets the requirements of flammability class UL 94 V-0 and offers type of protection IP 66 (dust-tight and protected against water jets).
The suitability of the materials used for applications in the railway industry is also a key focus. The frames and cable grommets are made from fire-resistant materials such as polyamide (PA) and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The fire protection mat is made from intumescent material, and the blind plugs are also made from polyamide (PA).
The materials are designed for a temperature range of -40 °C to +100 °C and ensure reliable sealing and strain relief even under demanding operating conditions.
Four frame sizes, maximum flexibility in configuration
CABseal rail is available in four splittable frame sizes:
- CABB F4 (4 Grommet fields),
- CABB F10 (6 Grommet fields),
- CABB F16 (8 Grommet fields)
- CABB F24 (10 Grommet fields).
With these four frame sizes, CABseal rail covers the most common standard cut-out dimensions. This simplifies planning and reduces the number of variants.
Each frame can be individually fitted with cable grommets: for example, a single large grommet can be used instead of four small ones. This allows the frame’s configuration to be flexibly adapted to different cable diameters and changing requirements.
The grommets reliably seal cable outer diameters ranging from 3 to 33 mm. When the frame is screwed into place, the positive fit between the cable and the grommet also ensures reliable strain relief. If required, this can be supplemented by cable ties attached to the strain relief tabs on the rear of the grommets.
Blind plugs and plugs are available for unused grommet fields. This ensures that the frame remains flexible to use even when requirements change.
Quick and easy to find your individual cable entry
CABseal offers you a wide range of possible combinations thanks to the flexible configuration of the frame with grommets. Whether for standard, fire-resistant or Hygienic Design applications, the CABseal configurator will help you put together your ideal solution in no time at all.
The highlight: use myPFLITSCH and the enquiry function to request a personal quote after completing your configuration. Uncomplicated. Fast. Simple.
Assembly
CABseal rail is designed for the quick and flexible routing of pre-assembled cables and wires. Its splittable design allows assembly without having to disconnect any cables or connectors that are already connected. This saves time during assembly and makes it particularly easy to extend existing cable installations.
The assembly is completed in just a few steps:
- First, the cables and wires are fitted with suitable cable grommets according to their diameter and inserted into the pre-assembled frame.
- Unused grommets can be easily sealed with blind plugs.
- The fire protection mat is then inserted into the frame containing the cables and wires.
- The unit is then assembled in a single step. An Allen key is used to secure the frame with screws.
This eliminates the need for time-consuming assembly of the fire protection mat to the inside of the enclosure or partition wall, as may be required with conventional fire protection solutions. This makes assembly considerably easier, particularly in confined spaces within rail vehicles.
Thanks to its splittable design, CABseal rail offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of configuration. The cable entry can be opened, reconfigured and then resealed as required – without having to replace the entire cable entry. Additional cables can thus be efficiently integrated, even in confined spaces, with minimal effort and short downtimes.
Applications in the railway industry
CABseal rail has been specially developed for interior applications in rail vehicles, as well as for applications in the fields of signalling and infrastructure, and thus covers a wide range of applications:
- Network and data cables
- Power cables and power supply
- Corrugated conduit penetrations in interior areas
